Brooke Church. In the wake of her recital
that so beautifully ornamented our AGM back in March, we are delighted to
welcome Dr. Gillian Ward Russell as this year’s castaway. Ron Watson will

Thorpe St. Andrew Parish
Church, An evening with Andrew
Hayden. Mr. Hayden, the organist at
St. Andrew’s, demonstrated the very fine 1901 Abbot and Smith organ and
talked about its recent overhaul. After an opportunity for members to play
the instrument, Mr. Hayden, gave an illustrated presentation on organ
photography. |

The Annual General Meeting. This was held in the ‘Refectory’
and was followed by a buffet lunch. After lunch Richard Bower
gave a talk on the restoration of the organ that he had recently completed in
the adjacent St. Helen’s Church. To conclude the event, Dr. Gillian Ward
Russell gave a recital on the organ. |

The Methodist Chapel,
Brooke, Martin Cottam examined the
life, work, legacy and genius of the 19th Century French organ
builder, Aristide Cavaillé-Coll. |

Outing to the City of We visited and played three
superb and historic instruments in churches all within approximately ten
minutes walking distance of St. Helen’s, Bishopsgate;
The Dutch Church, Austin Friars, where our member Anne Page introduced the
organ to us; St. Botolph’s, Aldgate. |

Outing to We met at Walpole St. Peter
church. After lunch at the King of Hearts pub, West Walton we moved to St.
Mary’s Church, West Walton. The day ended with a visit
to the parish |

Saturday July 19th

President’s Day. This started at the Bure
Valley Railway Station in Aylsham. We travelled by train to
Wroxham. This was followed by a 90
minute cruise on the broads. After lunch in Wroxham, we
travelled back to Aylsham. The final part of the day
consisted of Evensong at St. Michael’s Church, Aylsham, sung by the Church
choir and members of the association. This was followed by refreshments. |

Princes Street URC NOA Young Organists’
Recital. This year’s recital was
given by Matthew Bond on the fine Willis organ at the URC where he is
assistant to Peter Stevenson. He presented a varied programme, exploring the range
of tone colours of the instrument and his excellent performance shows just what
an accomplished player he is. |
